Lord of Miracles Procession 2025

Faith, Tradition, and a Historic Return to Callao

This 2025, the Brotherhood of the Lord of Miracles (Hermandad del Señor de los Milagros) has confirmed six processional outings, marking a milestone with the return to Callao after 22 years.

Because of this, Lima city and the “First Port” are preparing for one of the largest demonstrations of faith in the Americas: the solemn Lord of Miracles Procession. This year, the image of the Christ of Pachacamilla will go out on its traditional route to gather thousands of devotees who, with fervor and hope, will accompany the “Dark Christ” (Cristo Moreno) through the capital’s streets.

For Limeños and visitors alike, knowing the dates and routes is essential to being part of this moving tradition.

Official Routes and Dates for 2025

The litter of the Lord of Miracles will have six processional outings this year, each with special significance and a route that gathers massive crowds. Here are the key dates and days:

  • First Outing: Saturday, October 4th. The first procession of the year, a massive event that marks the start of the “Purple Month” (Mes Morado) and travels through the streets of Downtown Lima.
  • Second Outing: Saturday, October 18th. One of the largest and most crowded processions, attracting the greatest number of national and international devotees.
  • Third Outing: Sunday, October 19th. Continues the route from the previous day, consolidating the central weekend of the festivity.
  • Fourth Outing: Sunday, October 26th. A special date with an extended route that returns to the First Port (Callao). It will be transferred in the Nazareno Móvil from the Sanctuary of Las Nazarenas to Callao. This route is especially moving, as it has not been performed since 2003.

  • Sixth Outing: Saturday, November 1st. The closing procession, which carries the image back to the Church of Las Nazarenas, where it remains until next year.

A bit of history on the purple month

The history of the Lord of Miracles dates back to the 17th century, when a slave painted the image of Christ on a wall in a shack in Pachacamilla. Despite earthquakes and the passage of time, the image remained intact—a fact that devotees interpreted as a miracle. Since then, the procession has grown to become a pillar of Peru’s cultural and religious identity.

A spectacle of faith and tradition

Participating in the procession is a multisensory experience. The air is filled with the aroma of incense, hymns and prayers resonate in the streets, and the sea of people dressed in the traditional purple habit creates an unforgettable sight. It’s the perfect opportunity to see the sahumadoras (women who burn incense) and the hermanos cargadores (carrying brothers) in action, and to immerse yourself in the deep devotion of the Peruvian people.

Don’t forget to try the traditional Turrón de Doña Pepa, the emblematic dessert of this festivity, which is sold on every street corner throughout the entire month.

Tips for your visit

  • Plan your arrival: The streets of downtown Lima are closed to traffic during the processions. Use the Metropolitano bus system or plan your route on foot in advance.
  • Dress respectfully: Opt for comfortable clothing, preferably the purple habit, and suitable footwear for long walks.
  • Watch your belongings: Stay alert in large crowds.
  • Be patient: The procession’s movement is slow due to the large number of people.

The Lord of Miracles Procession 2025 is an event that will allow you to connect with the spiritual heart of Lima. It is a living testament to a faith that has endured through the centuries and a cultural spectacle no visitor should miss.
